2 month hiatus?

Can you believe it?  It's been almost 2 months since I've written on my blog.  I'm exploring new options, as I'm getting bored with blogging...yeah, bored isn't the right word...it's just time consuming.  I want to share pictures and stories from my class, so expect something soon!!

OH Smirna!

Today Nat came in to interrupt my class. :)  She and Smirna had a nice conversation.  It goes as follows:

Smirna  "Is your brother cute?"
Nat "Yeah he is."
Smirna "No I don't believe you."
Nat "Why?"
Smirna "It's not like you're that pretty."

Nat was talking about how her brother is coming to visit in April.

Makes me laugh.  I love my kids!!!

Bible

We're just finishing the first part of our Bible curriculum (the books of Genesis through Esther) and I gave my students one of the review pages.  One of the questions was which "stop" or book that they have enjoyed reading most.  And although we haven't read Psalms, one of my students wrote,
My favorite book of the Bible is Psalms because that shows to me that people can reject me or say that I'm worth anything but God loves me and we can't buy love so one day God will show everyone that I have a big value.  (David was a pastor and his brothers didn't like him because he was the most little of the family, but then he pased from pastor of sheep to a King.)

Sweet girl.  I love my students.

Team Victory

Team Victory

Thank you for all you continue to do for me down here in the Dominican Republic. Thank you for all of your prayers and your emails and encouragement.  I love receiving email and your encouragement.

I want to share something with you that is close to my heart.  One of my favorite professors from Taylor, Dr. Quinn White, has started a ministry that involves something that he is very passionate about.  Dr. Quinn was one of the most influential people in my life.  His heart for God was evident through everything he was teaching and he taught me so much about teaching and the Lord.  He instilled a passion for teaching and reading in my heart that makes me want to continue to be "like Dr. Quinn" in my teaching.

Another passion of his is running.  He loves to run,  loves to coach running, and loves to instill the passion for running in his own children.  Unfortunately, he didn't instill that passion in me! :) :)   With that said, he has started a mission called Team Victory.

Team Victory is a Christian ministry that spreads the Gospel all over the world through running and other athletics. Each child participant receives a new pair of shoes, a Bible in their language, and a Team Victory t-shirt.

Dr. Quinn has begun this ministry here in the Dominican Republic during Spring Break when he leads a team from Taylor, coaching a running camp, hosting a local race, and most importantly handing out a Bible and sharing the gospel with children who most likely may not hear it anywhere else.

Dr. Quinn has a vision to continue this ministry throughout the world.  He is going to be traveling to Guatemala soon (Feb. 20th) to establish a connection with a ministry there that he can work through.   He will then be traveling to the Dominican REpublic over Spring Break, bringing another team.  Then in June he will be going back to Guatemala, leading a team, traveling and handing out shoes, a Bible and a t-shirt and most importantly, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with those who may never hear it.

Right now he has 400 pairs of shoes and money for about 100 Bibles for the Dominican Republic.

Please consider financially supporting Dr. Quinn and Team Victory.  Obviously this is dear to my heart and would love if you would consider supporting this amazing ministry.   It is a non-profit ministry under Taylor University, so anyone who donates will get a receipt.

Let's go Colts!

Our Peyton, who art in Indy, hallowed be thy arm. Thy bowl will come, it will be won in Miami as it was in '07. Give us this Sunday, our weekly win, and give us many touchdowns, but don't let the evil Jets score against us. Lead us not into frustration; but deliver us a Super Bowl, the NFL's best, and the glory of Indy, forever. Amen.

Can't wait for the big game this weekend!!

Kids say the darndest thing...

A lot of times our students say, "ehhhhhhhhhhh!" when something happens that surprises them.  So oftentimes when something outrageous or funny happens, I generally mock them by saying, "EEEEHHHHHHH!"

Today Smirna said,

Miss Brewer, when you say "EHHHHHHHH" it sounds like you are in a space rocket and say, "EHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Christmas Program

This year my students sang a medley of songs for our Christmas program.  First they sang Joy to the World (in Spanish) rap style.  (hilarious!)  Then they sang Snoopy's Christmas.  Then they danced to Mi Burrito Sabanero (no English translation...it's about the donkey that took Mary to Bethlehem).  Finally, they sang White Christmas, complete with paper snowflakes that some students dropped off the bridge.  It was classic.  I'm not one to brag, but I definitely think we were one of the best acts out there! :)

Enjoy!
